Best time to visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

In other words Bwindi and Uganda in general can be visited all year round however, some months of the year are considered to offer more ideal conditions for safaris compared to the others.  And just like all other National Parks in Uganda, the dry season is the best time to visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for adventures. Uganda receives two dry seasons, the long dry season that lasts from June to October and a short dry season between December and February.

Notably, the best time to visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for safaris is therefore between June to October (long dry season) and December to Early February (Short dry season). During these months, Bwindi Receives fewer downpours and the ground is generally less slippery. This season is also the peak season for safaris in Uganda and we recommend booking your gorilla permit well in advance to avoid last-minute frustration.

Getting to Bwindi

Firstly, you can get to Bwindi either by road or by air.  By road, there is a six-hour drive from Kampala the capital to Queen Elizabeth National Park, and from Queen Elizabeth National Park to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is about a 2-3 hours drive. Also the other alternative route is from Kampala-Mbarara city about a 6-8 hour drive. From Mbarara-Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is about a 2-3 hours drive. All routes lead to the junction at Butogota which is about seventeen kilometers from the main access gate at Buhoma.

By air

The second way to get to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is by air. Tourists can board directly from Entebbe Airport or from the Kajjansi airstrip to Kihihi Airstrip in Kisoro. From Kisoro, you will then transfer to the park on road, a journey that lasts for about 2 hours.
