The Batwa Pygmies, also known as the Echuyu Batwa are an endangered group of people around Echuya Forest Reserve in Kisoro and Kabale Districts of South-Western Uganda. And still the Batwa are believed to have migrated from the Ituri Forest of the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo, the primary reason of their migration is believed to have been the search for wild animals to hunt.

They are also believed to be the original inhibiters of Uganda.  The Batwa live in small huts mainly made from sticks and grass in areas near the forests like Bwindi Forest.

“Originally, Batwa occupied the forest in the Great Lakes region of Central Africa, and are widely accepted as the original inhabitants of the region. As a result of the establishment of the Bwindi and Mgahinga National Parks for Mountain Gorillas in 1991, the Batwa were evicted from the forests as a result of conservation efforts and as of today, they are squatters living on the edges of society.
